Following hot laps, five qualifying races and three consolation races, the starting lineup is set for the $50,000-to-win Speed Showcase at Port Royal Speedway. A field of 37 Short Track Super Series Modifieds will take the green flag Saturday evening at the track known as the Speed Palace. 

Ronnie Johnson, one of five drivers who scored a qualifying night win on Friday, drew the No. 1 pill during the redraw and will lead the field to green for the 75-lap main event. The first four spots in the main event will be occupied by drivers who won qualifiers, with Mike Mahaney, Ryan Godown and Ryan Watt lining up behind Johnson. 

Defending race winner Matt Sheppard, who scored a dramatic $50,000 win over Stewart Friesen in October 2022, will start ninth.

Typically held in October, this week's event is being held as a result of last October's scheduled event being postponed due to weather. The race will also decide the 2023 Short Track Super Series Elite championship, with Matt Sheppard holding a 58-point advantage over Mat Williamson entering the event.
