Heavy morning rain soaked East Bay Raceway Park’s surface, prompting track and Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series officials to postpone Monday night’s Wieland Winternationals opener.
A unique idea, however, will be used to complete Monday’s 25-lap, $5,000-to-win event without running a day-night doubleheader. Officials announced that the four segments of Monday’s program will be split up over the next three nights of the Winternationals, moving Monday’s time trials to the end of Tuesday’s scheduled show and then tagging the heats and B-mains to Wednesday’s card and the feature to Thursday’s. The pits and grandstands will not be cleared each night before the Monday competition, officials added.
2024 Georgia-Florida Speedweeks Coverage
With the weather forecast for the remainder of the week looking very promising, the out-of-the-box format to complete Monday’s action provides the opportunity for all six scheduled nights of racing to be run during the 48th and final Winternationals at the third-mile oval that has been sold and is set for demolition following the 2024 season.
