Ken Schrader remains a bedrock at the foundation of North American motorsports. At the age of 68, Schrader skillfully wheeled his borrowed NASCAR Pinty’s Series machine around the ⅜-mile Ohsweken Speedway in Ontario, Canada for 100 laps to victory on Monday night (August 14). In just his second Series start, Schrader once again proved his ability to quickly adapt to a variety of race cars, tracks, and surfaces to success.

Heat Races set the lineups and veteran Ken Schrader started on the pole. However, the early stages were chaotic at the front and Alex Tagliani shot to the outside and worked his way to the lead. Unfortunately, he hit trouble on a restart, losing control, and doing a 360 spin in front of the entire field. Incredibly, the talented NASCAR Pinty’s Series drivers took evasive action and avoided hitting the former IndyCar driver.

Last year’s winner Treyten Lapcevich took control with Schrader on his heels. Suddenly with a quarter of the race remaining, a lapped car crossed up Lapcevich which allowed Schrader to power by into the lead where he stayed for the win.

“They got into each other,” Schrader noted of the contact. “He [Treyten Lapcevich]  had us all day. We worked with him on restarts and I made sure he cleared me. Once he got the lead I was racing him. Not just riding. I had to go to work then. The 22 team brought excellent cars. Both of them were right there all night long. So much fun. The track was excellent. You could run all over it.”

The NASCAR Pinty’s Series will return to Ohsweken Speedway on Wednesday night for the second half of the doubleheader event. Watch live.
