Brent Marks Tops Anthony Macri For PA Speedweek Win at Williams Grove
Brent Marks emerged victorious over Anthony Macri in Friday's PA Speedweek crown jewel at Williams Grove Speedway.
The 33rd annual Pennsylvania Speedweek has seemed like a personal showcase for the talents of Brent Marks and Anthony Macri, and the story was no different on Friday night – as the dynamic duo finished 1-2 for the third time through five races.
With $20,000 on the line in Friday’s Mitch Smith Memorial at Williams Grove Speedway, this one meant a little more than the rest as the crown jewel of PA Speedweek made Mechanicsburg the place to be.
After a heavier-than-expected shower doused the track and worsened infield conditions, haulers were relocated to the backstretch pit area and the night resumed with 29 Sprint Cars competing in the fifth round of the week.
To no surprise, Macri topped the charts in Time Trials with a lap of 16.665 seconds – becoming the first driver of the week to claim multiple QuickTime Awards. He was followed by Heat winners Marks, Tanner Thorson and Billy Dietrich.
The redraw brought us a familiar front row of the #19 and #39M – leading to another 30-lap, one vs. one battle between Marks and Macri on the half-mile.
Ultimately, Myerstown, PA’s Brent Marks led from start-to-finish for the $20,000 victory – his second of the week, sixth of the season, 11th of his career with PA Speedweek, and 17th of his career at Williams Grove.

It wasn’t as jaw-dropping as Wednesday’s Hagerstown thriller produced by the duo, but Macri did keep Marks honest down the stretch and peaked inside for the lead on Lap 27 of 30. Unable to make the pass stick, though, the Dillsburg, PA native settled for another second-place finish – which remains his worst finish through five races.
Amazingly enough, Macri is only the third driver in the 33-year history of PA Speedweek to record three consecutive runner-up finishes – following in the footsteps of Don Kreitz Jr. (1998) and Lucas Wolfe (2007).
Chase Dietz, of York, PA, chased Marks and Macri to the stripe in his #2D – becoming the 97th driver in history to record a PA Speedweek podium. He and Tanner Thorson (3rd at BAPS) are the only two newcomers to the podium so far this week.
With three races remaining, Macri owns a commanding 127-point lead over Marks, who has clawed his way back following his only blemish – a crash at BAPS on Sunday. Behind the dominant duo in PA Speedweek points is currently Justin Peck (-196), Freddie Rahmer (-219), and Tanner Thorson (-244).
The mini-series returns for round six of PA Speedweek tonight, Saturday, July 1 at Port Royal Speedweek as the Greg Hodnett Classic offers a $10,000-to-win payday. You can watch every lap live on FloRacing.
