Castrol FloRacing Night In America Championship Attracting Big Names
Many of the nation's biggest dirt late model stars are planning to chase the Castrol FloRacing Night in America championship in 2023.
A lucrative championship point fund has once again attracted dirt late model racing's biggest stars to Castrol FloRacing Night in America for the 2023 season. The popular mid-week touring series features a championship purse of $50,000, with the potential to claim a $75,000 check if the champion has perfect attendance at every series race during the season.
Heading into the season-opening event on Tuesday night at Eldora Speedway, an impressive list of at least seven dirt late model stars have committed to chasing the $75,000 prize. Additional full-time drivers are expected to enter the championship battle as the season progresses.
Headlining the list of drivers currently committed to racing the full 13-race schedule is defending Castrol FloRacing Night in America champion Brandon Sheppard. One year ago, Sheppard captured the $75,000 check by scoring one win and 10 top-10 finishes in 11 races. "B-Shepp" drove the Rocket1 house car in nine of the 11 races last season before ending the season in the Sheppard Riggs Racing No. B5 at Senoia Raceway.
With Sheppard moving away from the Rocket Chassis house car, Hudson O'Neal has taken over behind the wheel and will attempt to win a second straight Castrol FloRacing Night in America championship for the No. 1 ride. O'Neal competed in eight of the 11 races last season and collected a win at Marshalltown on May 18.
Ricky Thornton, Jr., the current Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series points leader, is also planning to chase the 2023 Castrol FloRacing Night in America championship. RTJ finished second in last year's championship standings and ended the year by winning the $53,053-to-win Peach State Classic at Senoia Raceway.

After becoming the only driver to score more than one Castrol FloRacing Night in America win one year ago, Bobby Pierce is expected to chase the full schedule in 2023. Pierce collected wins at Fairbury American Legion Speedway (FALS) and Atomic Speedway last season.
Mike Marlar, who finished third in the championship standings in 2022, is also expected to compete full-time with the series in 2023. Marlar has competed in 16 of the 18 races held during the two-year history of the series, and he will be seeking his first series win this season.
Defending Gateway Dirt Nationals champion Tyler Erb has also committed to Castrol FloRacing Night in America. "Terbo" has three top-five finishes with the series in 14 career starts.
Garrett Alberson completes the list of currently committed drivers after an impressive 2022 season that consisted of six top-10 finishes in eight races.
In addition to the list of full-time drivers, impressive fields are expected at every Castrol FloRacing Night in America event in 2023. Drivers like 2021 series champion Jonathan Davenport and 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson will be competing in the series-opening events at Eldora Speedway and Brownstown Speedway.
