Jake Neuman Awake, Communicating Following Crash At Lakeside Speedway
Jake Neuman is awake and communicating following a hard qualifying crash during Tuesday's High Limit Sprint Car Series race at Lakeside Speedway.
Update at 3:08 p.m. ET: Neuman's family issued another update on his Facebook page on Wednesday afternoon. This update was the most encouraging yet as Neuman got up and walked for a little bit.
Sprint Car driver Jake Neuman crashed hard in qualifying during Tuesday’s High Limit Sprint Car Series season opener at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas. Officials reported that Neuman was awake and alert following the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital.
The New Berlin, Illinois driver was entering turn three when his car turned abruptly to the right and slammed the wall driver’s side first before flipping. Safety officials had to cut Neuman from his race car, and then Neuman was transported to a local hospital.
Neuman’s mother took to his Facebook page to update his fans on his condition. The first update on Tuesday night said that Neuman was in the ICU and in stable condition.
The second update came earlier Wednesday morning. Neuman’s mother said the doctors have now done two CT scans and that he was answering questions while “somewhat awake.” But the best news is that the doctor “thinks he’s going to be ok.”
Neuman is an eight-time winner with the POWRi National Midget Series, and a four-time winner with the MOWA Sprint Car Series.
Tuesday’s race was the first points-paying race for the High Limit Sprint Car Series, owned by four-time World of Outlaws champion Brad Sweet, and NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson. The race was won by Giovanni Scelzi.
FloRacing will update this story when more information becomes available about Neuman's status.
