Stormy Scott won the United States Modified Touring Series battle at Kossuth County Speedway in Algona, Iowa, from a fourth-place starting position on Wednesday night, but his biggest focus was on the war at hand.
He closed the gap on points leader Jason Hughes to 40 markers while extending his lead over third-place Cade Dillard to 52. Hughes finished fifth. Dillard retired on lap 15 in 20th.
Five races remain in the USMTS Hunt for the Casey’s Cup.
Wednesday night’s victory gives Scott sole possession of fifth on the all-time USMTS winners list with 43, which breaks him out of a tie with Tommy Myer and active driver Zack VanderBeek.
After drawing the fourth starting spot, Scott was able to take the lead from Tyler Wolff on lap six and never looked back.
While Wolff faded to 10th in the final rundown, Ryan Gustin and Dereck Ramirez completed the podium.
Ricky Thornton Jr. finished fourth with Hughes rounding out the top five.
