The Super DIRTcar Series winningest driver, Brett ‘The Jet’ Hearn, will once again be hosting his famed ‘Big Show’ at Albany-Saratoga Speedway on Tuesday, June 25th.
The Big Show XI will mark the 11th running of the event at the fast dirt oval. With it being the 11th running, the purse has been increased to a total of $11,111 going to the lucky winner. The winner will also be receiving a guaranteed starting spot at the NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week 200 in Oswego, NY.
The Big Show has grown into quite the extravagant event with plenty of things happening both on and off the track. The event draws in the big car counts, and big crowds, where the best of the best come to battle it out.
Last year saw Stewart Friesen capitalize on Matt Sheppard’s late race misfortune to take home the winnings over teammates, Jimmy Phelps and Max McLaughlin.
So far this season, Albany-Saratoga Speedway has witnessed two Super DIRTcar Series regulars take the checkers at their Friday night home track.
The Australian native, Peter Britten, has been a strong force week in and week out at the 4/10’s-mile. Britten picked up the victory on opening night and just recently collected his second victory at his Friday night home track.
Hearn, who is no stranger to the semi-banked dirt track, clinched one solo win back in the middle of May. Despite only having one win on his roster this season, Hearn currently leads the points over the driver of the No.3J machine, Marc Johnson, who also has a win to his name this season.
Other drivers who call the Malta, NY, dirt oval home like the legendary Kenny Tremont, Matt Delorenzo, Jessey Mueller and Keith Flach will be up for the challenge when the stars and cars come to town.
With only two Super DIRTcar Series points races in the books, the points battle continues heading into The Big Show XI. So far, Matt Sheppard and Erick Rudolph have been the stars of the show with Sheppard picking up the victory at Can-Am Speedway and Rudolph running away with the Weedsport Speedway win. However, ‘Lightning’ Larry Wight has been a strong but quiet contender who is currently sitting in a close second-place in points chase behind Sheppard.
Last year Wight only ran select Super DIRTcar Series events, so he was not in attendance of the 2018 Big Show, leaving many guessing if he will come in and sweep the night on the 25th.
The Super DIRTcar Series has had one of its best fields ever this season with 21 different drivers who have competed in both series events so far that are looking to continue their trek with the series. The series has several drivers in contention for the Rookie of the Year title who have shown strong potential as they battle it out with some of the best drivers in the northeast like Sheppard, Hearn, Danny Johnson, Billy Decker, and Wight.
The $1,000-to-win “Pick-the-Pick” fan contest is back once again. From 4 PM to 6 PM Tuesday evening, fans can choose who they think will be the top five drivers in group time trials. The $1,000 jackpot is to be split between anyone who picks all five. Fans that get four out of five will be granted a free pit pass upgrade.
