Ex-Formula 1 driver Alexander Wurz is stepping out of retirement and into an FIA World Rallycross Championship car for the first time as a competitor.

The two-time Le Mans winner and 44-year-old Austrian was announced Friday as one of the wild-card entries for the fifth round of the World RX series at Hell in Norway, which takes place June 8-10 at the LÃ¥nkebanen circuit.

Wurz will make his debut while driving the MJP Racing Team Austria’s Ford Fiesta as part of a 22-strong World RX Supercar field. He previously tested with the Austrian team and joins multiple Austrian Rallycross champion and team owner Max Pucher in a two-car lineup.

Before stepping away from F1, Wurz made 69 grand prix starts in his 10-year career while also winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1996 and 2009. He last raced in a Toyota LMP1 car at the FIA World Endurance Championship Prologue test at Paul Ricard in southern France in April.

Before heading to Norway, the World RX Championship makes a stop at Silverstone circuit in Great Britain for the 2018 Speedmachine Festival on May 25-27.
