Ricky Weiss Goes Back To Victory Lane In Night 5 Of The Wild West Shootout
Ricky Weiss dominated Night 5 of the Wild West Shootout and kept his hopes alive for a $10,000 bonus that goes to anyone who can win three.
Ricky Weiss won the opening night of the Wild West Shootout and was on his way to a second win in Night 2 when he was knocked out of the lead by Bobby Pierce. He was forced to wait a week before returning to the hallowed ground, but he dominated night five at Arizona Speedway in San Tan Valley.
With the win, Weiss pocketed a paycheck of $5,000, but he will be able to add another $23,000 Sunday if he can win one more time. Race sponsor, Keyser Manufacturing put up a bonus of $10 grand for any driver who wins three races; the race purse for the finale pays $13,000-to-win.
Weiss is not the only driver eligible for the bonus. Don Shaw also has a pair of wins last Sunday and Wednesday.
Saturday night’s event went off without a single caution, so beating the field to turn one was critical.
“This thing works in the mud, it works in the slick, it works in the rubber, it works everywhere,” Weiss said following the race.
After gaining that early advantage, Weiss never looked back: leading flag-to-flag in the 40-lap, A-Main. While the field was packed with Late Model talent, Weiss beat a pair of drivers best known for their exploits in the United States Modified Touring Series. Cade Dillard came home second; Ryan Gustin finished third to round out the podium.
