On Sunday night, Don Shaw answered the question, “How low can you go?” when making a pass on Bobby Pierce to win round two of the Wild West Shootout at Arizona Speedway in San Tan Valley, AZ.

Three nights later, he answered the question, “How far can you go?” when his engine lost power on the frontstretch as he took the checkered flag for his second victory of the week.

Shaw started Wednesday's race on the outside of row two but was handed the opportunity to grab the top spot when then-leader Cade Dillard got tangled up with lapped cars on the 11th circuit. Shaw then led the final 19 laps but not without significant pressure from last year’s points champion, Bobby Pierce — and not without the drama of the final lap.

“It shut off right when I crossed the flagstand, so I don’t know what happened,” Shaw said after the race.

Pierce finished second behind Shaw for the second night in a row but is confident the team is getting closer to Victory Lane.

“We’ve got three more nights to go and I think we’re getting better and better figuring out this car more,” Pierce said.

If Pierce can make good on his threat, he will deny Shaw a six-figure payday. With two wins in the books, Shaw still has a chance at a $100,000 bonus available to a driver who takes the checkers five times in the six-night event.

“Let’s take this one step at a time,” Shaw said after pocketing his second $5,000 check for winning an A-Main.

Brandon Sheppard took the final step on the podium. He had to climb from 13th on the starting grid, while Mike Marlar maintained the points lead with a fourth-place finish.

Chase Junghans rounded out the top five.

After getting tangled in the middle of the race, the pole-sitter Dillard finished 24th.
