The grandstands of Millstream Speedway were silent for the 2017 season, but thanks to Larry and Shane Helms, that will not be the case next year.

Under the direction of the former Sprint Car racing brothers, the Finlday, Ohio, half-mile dirt track will host three All Star Circuit of Champions events — all three of which will be part of major weekends of racing.

"We're thrilled to reopen Millstream Speedway next season and showcase three All Star shows," Shane Helms said. "We believe Millstream can be a premier facility that can provide entertaining races for the fans and racing teams."

The Helms Bros. will use the three races to showcase former Sprint stars from the region.

The first of the races is scheduled for Memorial Day weekend on May 27 and is named the Bob Hampshire Classic. The second race comes on June 23 as part of the Ohio Speedweek, while the third show is a $10,000-to-win event named the Rick Ferkel Classic on Sept. 3 as part of Labor Day festivities.

"Millstream Speedway is an important part of our racing careers and our community," Helms said. "We want to see Millstream Speedway thrive and we want to pay homage to the local greats, including Bob Hampshire and Rick Ferkel."

The track last hosted 410 Sprints in 2016 with three major shows.

Ohio native Dale Blaney beat Chad Kemenah and visiting NASCAR star Kyle Larson in mid-June that year. In August, Kemenah and Blaney stood on the podium again in second and third, respectively, but they had to watch another Ohio driver, Sheldon Haudenschild, hoist the big iron. Finally in October, Kraig Kinser beat second-place Haudenschild and Kemenah to become the third different winner of the year.

A full schedule for 2018 will be released later, but the track also hosted the Ohio Sprint Car Series, UMP DIRTcar Modifieds, and Late Models in 2016.
