Top Fives In Three Disciplines Make Stewart Friesen A Flo 50 Driver

Stewart Friesen is one of several drivers in the Flo 50 who split his time between dirt and pavement.

He lacks the name recognition as someone such as Christopher Bell or Kyle Larson in the NASCAR community, and since the Super DIRTcar series spends most of its time in the Northeast and Midwest, many dirt track fans might be a little surprised to see him this high on the list. But Friesen belongs here because of his ability to move between disciplines and find success everywhere.

Friesen made the Flo50 with relatively few starts overall, but his top five percentage was excellent. In 19 dirt track starts, he scored two wins, 10 top fives, and another four top 10s. When he qualified for the A-Main, he finished outside the top 15 only twice on dirt, which makes him one of the most consistent racers on the list.

Splitting his time between DIRTcar and the Camping World Truck Series pretty much ensured that he would not run in the Modifieds championship, but that did not keep him from challenging for wins. In fact, he graced Victory Lane twice in July — both times in New York. He won at Utica-Rome Speedway on July 2 and again at Weedsport Speedway a little more than a week later.

He finished in the runner-up position on two other occasions on the Super DIRTcar schedule.

And while his Truck finishes do not impact his FloRacing Power Ranking, it is notable that he almost won a race in one of NASCAR’s top three divisions. He finished second to Matt Crafton at Eldora Speedway in the Dirt Derby on July 19. He led the most laps that evening before getting passed with 17 laps remaining.

Friesen had another top five with the Truck series on the short, flat asphalt track of New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon.

Friesen showed even greater versatility, which is something FloRacing fans appreciate. Not content to run only Dirt Modifieds and NASCAR Camping World Trucks, he made the occasional foray into open wheel sprints when the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions came to his backyard. Friesen failed to make the A-Main of the Tuscarora 50 at Port Royal (PA) Speedway, but one of his top fives came with that series at Orange County Fair Speedway in Middleton, NY.

*Percentage points utilize the baseline belief that a win is a win in the major series covered. One hundred points is awarded to first and the points decrement below that as a percentage of the field. For example, in a 25-car field, each position behind the winner is worth four fewer points. In races with incredibly large fields, the points decrement to a less extreme degree. A 50-car field decrements two points per position, and drivers earn points even if they fail to make the A-main.
