The silly season of driver movement continues in all disciplines of racing, with Kevin Thomas signing on to drive for Petry Motorsports in the USAC Midget series.

Thomas already has one race in the books with the team in the Turkey Night Grand Prix at Ventura (CA) Raceway on Nov. 23. And while that finish was not what Thomas wanted — he was 13th on the night — it was good enough to get him offered a full-time ride.

His next start with the team will come in March at Southern Illinois Center in Du Quoin, IL.

"It's really cool to be able to jump back in a midget," Thomas said. "I didn't know that a Turkey Night ride would turn into a full-time deal, but I'm thankful Scott (Petry) and the whole team are behind me. They're a great group of guys and I'm looking forward to see(ing) what we can make happen this season."

Thomas will run the entire 2018 schedule with Jerry Coons Jr. as a teammate — giving Petry Motorsports two chances to win the USAC Midget championship.

For Thomas, that would add another title to his list of achievements. He won the Midget Rookie of the Year title in 2014. The next year, he finished third in national points.

In 2017, Thomas spent the majority of the year racing in Sprints. He earned an Eastern Storm win at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, PA, for Pace Brothers Racing — one of three teams with which he competed.

"We're excited to have Kevin on board," Petry said. "He is intense, serious about winning, and a pleasure to be around. We didn't have the best finish at Turkey Night, but we definitely figured out a few things. We're looking forward to a successful 2018 season and are ready to get back to racing."
