Dave Darland Seeks Sweet Dreams At Goodnight
Dave Darland will reunite with Goodnight Racing in 2018, which he hopes will make his dreams come true.
Dave Darland will join forces with Matt and Gene Goodnight in 2018 to run the full USAC Sprint Car schedule. If all goes according to plan, Darland's dream of a second Sprint Car championship will come true.
The move gives the 25-year veteran Darland a dependable home while providing the Goodnights an experienced driver. Darland is the winningest driver in USAC Sprint Car history with 59 trophies on his mantelpiece. He also has the distinction of winning a championship in all three of USAC’s top divisions. Darland was the Sprint Car champ in 1999, won the Silver Crown series in 1997, and has captured the Midget title twice — in 2001 and 2002.
Scott Benic has been named as Darland's crew chief. This will be a reunion for driver and mechanic; Darland and Benic have already combined for six USAC Sprint wins in 2008-09.
This also a reunification between driver and team. Darland ran a few races with Goodnight last year — pocketing a couple of top fives in the process. In 2010, Darland spent the majority of the season with the Goodnights and scored a win at Lawrenceburg (IN) Speedway.
Darland will make his first start for this team Feb. 15-17 at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, FL.
