The inaugural Dalton Myers 54 was postponed twice last year before track officials at East Bay Raceway Park in Gibsonton, FL, finally found the right conditions to run the tribute race, which is held in memory of a promising former motocross driver who was just beginning to make a name for himself in Late Models before his death in 2015.

When the race debuted last December, Mark Whitener and Devin Dixon thrilled the fans as they charged through the field. Whitener moved up from fourth for the win, with Dixon settling into second after starting ninth.

Further back in the pack, Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. finished seventh in a No. 54 tribute car to Myers while Wayne Hammond took Kyle Bronson’s car to an eighth-place finish. Bronson was sitting out after he and Keith Nosbisch were involved in a physical altercation one week prior.

The Dalton Myers 54 returns for its second edition on Saturday, Dec. 16, and is streaming LIVE on FloRacing.

Who To Watch

Doug Horton 

Horton knows the difference between racing Florida Late Models topless versus enclosed. He also knows how impactful the nearby changing tides can be on track conditions, and that inside information could be just what he needs to pick up a the win this seek in the second annual Dalton Myers 54.

Devin Dixon 

Dixon did not get a lot of opportunities to race at his home track of East Bay because he spent 2017 touring for the first time. After a successful year on the road, he will bring that experience back to a track where he has a lot of laps. Last year, he finished second in the Dalton Myers 54, so this is his chance to exact a little revenge.

Mark Whitener 

The “Magic Man” Whitener grabbed the lead on lap 34 of last year’s Dalton Myers 54 before holding Dixon and Horton at bay for the final 20 laps. This was the 20th win of the season for the veteran late model contender, and he looks to make a sweep of it Saturday night.
