Marlar, Richards Set Quick Time For Outlaws Late Model World Finals
Marlar and Richards posted two of the fastest laps in qualification for the World Finals and will lead their heats this weekend.
Mike Marlar and Josh Richards set the quick times in Thursday night's time trials for the Textron Off Road World Finals and will lead the field in the first heat race on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
With 75 cars in attendance for two nights of racing, the qualification format for the World of Outlaws Late Model Series portion of the show has to be done a little differently than most weekend shows.
Qualification was broken into two groups for each night for a total of four flights.
Marlar’s time of 14.385 seconds was the fastest overall and gives him the pole position in heat one of Friday night’s program.
"Getting to be on the pole tomorrow makes life a lot easier when you get to start out front," Marlar said. "It doesn't mean you're going to stay there but you're already there, so they have to pass you which is always a good thing."
Richards, Brandon Kinzer, Dale McDowell, Dennis Erb, Jr., and Tim McCreadie also set fast enough times to start on the pole of their respective heats.
In the second two flights of qualification — which sets Saturday night’s heat lineups — Richards had the best time of 14.536 seconds.
"The car has been really fast, and it feels good to be back here at Charlotte. It's one of my favorite tracks," Richards said. "These are the last two races we plan on running all year so we just want to go out and try to win and run as best as we can. Charlotte is a high-speed track, and I've been fortunate to always run pretty well here. I just love how you can drive this place — it's unique."
Joining him at the front of the heats on Saturday will be Erb, Marlar, Brandon Sheppard, McDowell, and TJ Reaid.
