We're here with you live Saturday for updates on the third night of the National Open at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
A-Main:
Gravel Wins with Donny Schatz second, James McFadden, Logan Schuchart, and Daryn Pittman round out the top five.
Greg Hodnett, Kerry Madsen, Sheldon Haudenschild, Brock Zearfoss, and Jason Sides round out the top 10.
David Gravel bookends the weekend with wins. After taking the checkers on Thursday, he wins the big money: $50,000
Amazingly, Sweet rejoins the field.
Kraig Kinser, Brad Sweet, and Jason Johnson get back out during the Open Red. On the restart, Sweet and Kinser get together agan. Sweet tries to go too low and tags the inside wall, then bounces into Kinser.
Logan Schuchart is the big mover, climbing from 20th to fifth.
There are bigger problems to attend to: Shane Stewart, Jason Johnson and Kraig Kinser crash in turn two. Stewart took a tumble and this is going to end his night. Brad Sweet also gets a piece of the accident.
Smoking will finally get to you: Dewease retires.
On lap 21 Shane Stewart slows with a flat... Well, more like he was trying to run on the rim. He gets the tire changed and is back out there.
On lap 18, Brian Montieth brings out the first caution.
Lance DeWease is smoking badly, but maintains his 4th spot.
Gravel makes a bold move in lapped traffic, squeezing past Jac Haudenchild on the high side exiting turn four.
So much for that prediction, Gravel makes a great crossover move on lap five and takes the lead. Now Schatz is under fire by McFadden.
Schatz gets the jump on Gravel on lap one. He's going to be hard to track down even in a 40-lapper.
The lineup looks like this:
David Gravel | Donny Schatz
Daryn Pittman | Lance DeWease
Kerry Madsen | James McFadden
Shane Stewart | Jason Sides
Greg Hodnett | Lucas Wolfe
Sheldon Haudenschild | Ian Madsen
Brian Brown | Brent Marks
Jason Johnson | Brock Zearfoss
Kraig Kinser | Danny Dietrich
Jac Haudenschild | Logan Schuchart
Brad Sweet | Cory Haas
Brian Montieth | Dale Blaney
Freddie Rahmer | TJ Stutts
B-Main:
The B-Main goes green flag to flag with Brad Sweet moving up to the A. He beat Pennsylvania Posse member Cory Haas, Brian Montieth, and Dale Blaney to advance.
Craftsman Pole Dash:
David Gravel wins the pole with Donny Schatz lining up to his outside. Daryn Pittman and Lance DeWease will make up the second row.
C-Main:
Jacob Allen becomes the 44th different driver to win a preliminary event at Williams Grove. Greg Wilson is the other driver who transfers into the B-Main.
Heats (Top four advance to the A-Main):
Heat 4: Starks gets disqualified for an illegal top wing, so Jason Johnson gets the final transfer position.
Hodnett holds on for the win with Sheldon Haudenschild, Logan Schuchart, and Trey Starks rounding out the transfer positions.
Greg Hodnett had a great lead until Dale Blaney slowed on the track with two remaining.
Heat 3: Lucas Wolfe wins this heat with Brent Marks second and Kraig Kinser third, but the real story was the battle for the last transfer position. Jac Haudenschild nipped Bryan Smith coming off turn four and steals the spot.
Brad Sweet loses power halfway through.
Heat 2: Kerry Madsen takes the top spot and will advance to the A. Along with him will be Jason Sides (last night's quick timer), Brian Brown and Danny Dietrich.
Heat 1: Shane Stewart wins over Lance DeWease by nearly two seconds. Brock Zearfoss was second.
With a time of 16.870, Jac was half a second faster than the rest of the field. Trey Starks with a 17.328.
