Scott Bloomquist has been in top form lately.

After narrowly losing the North/South 100 two weeks ago, the veteran has rebounded to win back-to-back marquee events. Last weekend, he had to overcome a provisional start to capture the Topless 100 in Batesville, AR. On Saturday night, he returned to Victory Lane in the Whiskey City 60 at Lawrenceburg (Indiana) Speedway. Bloomquist has won the event three times in a row.

Bloomquist started in seventh and was the fourth leader of the race. Darrell Lanigan dominated the start of the race, grabbing the lead from the pole and pacing the field for the first 25 laps. On lap 25, a pair of rookies found their way to the back of Lanigan's car. Hudson O'Neal passed Lanigan for a short-lived lead before fellow rookie of the year contender Gregg Satterlee took point.

By lap 35, Bloomquist had made his way up to second and challenged and passed Satterlee for the lead.

After their all-too-brief time as the front, the two rookies both fell off the podium as O'Neal finished fourth and Satterlee finished fifth. Jimmy Owens and points leader Josh Richards ended up taking their spots in second and third, respectively.

"The car was getting good grip on the bottom," Bloomquist said. "It took a little while for the tires to come into it. On that one restart, I really wanted to get to the bottom. I was afraid if Jimmy [Owens] had gotten in front of me, it would be tough to get around him."

Owens was happy with finishing second, knowing that Bloomquist had the better setup.

"[Bloomquist] was better than I was," Owens said. "My car was way too tight, and I couldn't rotate the corners like I wanted to. We have been picking up the pace lately and getting better and better. Maybe we can click off a few more wins this year."

After his win, Bloomquist was asked about his health issues, including two torn rotator cuffs in recent seasons.

"I was helping unload an engine. I said we should run a pipe through it. I kind of slipped and ended up carrying quite a bit of the weight and [my back] has been getting worse ever since," Bloomquist said of his injury. "You just get used to it after a while."

With his third-place finish, Richards retains the points lead over Tim McCreadie, who finished seventh and Bloomquist.

"The best car won," Richards said. "I am just kicking myself on that restart. I thought the car would be better than it was -- we just fell back. Thanks to everyone at Best Performance Motorsports. I was only here once in 2009, so these guys have a lot more laps around here. We have run a lot of places for the very first time this year. We will keep digging at it."

This was Bloomquist's eighth win of the season, which ties his series best. If he wins again before November, he'll improve his own record at the age of 53.
