Mike Marlar won the World of Outlaws Late Model Series race at Duck River Speedway in Wheel, TN, on May 14 after driving through the night from a previous engagement. The trip was certainly worthwhile as it allowed him to score his second career victory in the prestigious series. It also rocketed him to fourth on the FloRacing Late Model Power Rankings.

Marlar's victory was his third start in the past 60 days on one of the top two late model divisions, and it qualified him for inclusion on this list. He has one other top 10 at Whynot Motorsports Park in Whynot, MS. While he does not run regularly in either the Outlaws or Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series, he keeps busy in a variety of other sanctions and has one other win to his credit in the Schaeffer Oil Spring Nationals Sexton Memorial at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN.

Shannon Babb held onto the top spot despite not running in either big league last week. He remained relevant, however, with a win at Farmer City Raceway in Famer City, IL, in a 35-lap preliminary event for of the Farmer City 74. He finished second in the 74-lap main event the following night.

Brandon Sheppard closed the gap somewhat last week. His fifth-place finish at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN, and second at Duck River gives him four consecutive top fives in Outlaw competition. It was his 14th top five in one of the two big series. Five wins in 23 combined starts this year have made him one of the strongest late model racers around.

Sheppard spends most of his time with the Outlaws and leads the points standings there, but he has run often enough to sit 16th in the Lucas Oil standings.

Like Babb, Billy Moyer Sr. is another part-time driver who has capitalized on some early-season success to remain in the top five, but he is unlikely to remain there for long. One of his three top fives in the past 60 days is about to age out of the FloRacing Power Rankings formula, and when it does, a 24th in the Lucas Oil Bad Boy 98 is going to seriously affect his percentage points.

Scott Bloomquist rounds out the top five. When he won the Ralph Latham Memorial at Florence Speedway in Union, KY, we expected him to move up in the rankings, but a 10th-place finish the following night in Tazewell, TN, earned only 61 percentage points from the possible 100 to bring his average back down to 82.44.

Tyler Erb was this week's big loser among the top 10. He fell from fourth last week to seventh largely because of a couple of modest runs. His ninth-place finish with the Outlaws at Smoky Mountain and sixth at Duck River were not terrible, but with only one top five in his last eight races, he has not been able to keep up with the other drivers.

Meanwhile, Brandon Overton's Outlaw win at Smoky Mountain and fourth-place finish at Duck River allowed him to make up the most ground near the top of the order. He was not quite able to crack the top 10 and lands 13th on the charts because a 20th at Cherokee Speedway in Cherokee, SC, hurts his average. However, he did advance 10 positions.
