Week In Sprints: Donny Schatz Steals The Show
The World of Outlaws was the only major series in the Midwest to race this weekend and Donny Schatz won both of their races.
Donny Schatz stole the show last week as the World of Outlaws was the only major sprint car series in the Midwest to race.
After struggling through seven weeks without a victory, he swept the weekend with wins at the Missouri State Fairgrounds in Sedalia, MO, and 81 Speedway in Park City, KS. The seven-week stretch only seemed long because Schatz was so dominant in the first part of the season with six wins in the first eight races.
When a driver sweeps a weekend, it is impossible to make up points. Even so, David Gravel's ninth-place finish in Missouri really hurt. Last week he was 36 points out of first; this week, he sits 60 behind Schatz. His only consolation is that third-place Brad Sweet did not fare much better with a seventh place at Missouri and a fifth at 81 Speedway.
Daryn Pittman quite literally had the second-best outing last weekend. He finished runner-up behind Schatz in both Outlaws races and moved up one position from fifth to fourth in the standings.
This week the Outlaws get busy with a two night show at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, OH, and another race at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN.
The American Sprint Car Series heads back into action after nearly a month on the sidelines. Sam Hafertepe Jr. will try to keep his perfect streak of wins alive at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, KS. He won the first five events on the ASCS schedule.
