1. Scott Bloomquist (Earnings: $894,968)
The GOAT debate when it comes to the Dream isn’t a contest. Bloomquist’s eight wins, 11 overall podiums (it’d be nine wins if not for 2015’s disqualification) and whopping $894,968 in earnings are easily all-time highs.
Let’s put it this way: Bloomquist has earned more money at the Dream than Brandon Overton, Jonathan Davenport and Brandon Sheppard combined. His average of $38,912 per Dream start ranks third all-time behind only Freddy Smith and Brandon Overton.
2. Brandon Overton (Earnings: $401,405)
In only seven Dream starts Big Sexy ranks second all-time with his three event wins and earnings at $401,405, a number only rivaled by Scott Bloomquist’s $216,475 through his first seven starts.
Big Sexy has still technically won the last three Dream features he’s started even though he failed to qualify last year. While he’s still a ways behind Bloomquist from entering into the GOAT conversation, he’s still comfortably ahead of Jonathan Davenport in the earnings category.
3. Jonathan Davenport (Earnings: $295,425)
Two Dream wins in 14 event starts seem underwhelming for Superman, whose Man of Steel tendencies are certainly superhero-like at the Big E, but of course he's accomplished enough at the Crown Jewel to be ranked among the best.
Last year’s Dream victory worth $129,000 catapulted him from eighth in all-time event earnings to third at $295,425, with his $21,102 average paycheck per Dream start ranking him fourth all-time behind Freddy Smith, Brandon Overton and Scott Bloomquist.
4. Billy Moyer (Earnings: $288,100)
The World 100 king hasn’t crossed over his dominance to the Dream, per se, but he’s still one of five drivers all-time to earn multiple victories in the June Crown Jewel.
Moyer’s total earnings of $288,100 rank fourth all-time, a number that’s held its own in recent years despite only adding $2,650 to those laurels (2021’s 24th-place finish) since the start of 2018.
5. Freddy Smith (Earnings: $210,000)
Perhaps no driver will ever leave the impact that the Southern Gentleman left on the Dream in three feature starts ever again.
He won the event’s inaugural running in 1994, finished third his next go-around in 1999 and then came right back in 2000 to lead every lap to become the first multi-time Dream winner in its own 30-year history. Smith’s $210,000 in earnings remain seventh all-time while his $70,000 average paycheck could forever remain most all-time.
6. Brandon Sheppard (Earnings: $178,225)
Like anywhere he goes these days, the four-time World of Outlaws champion is a bonafide contender at the Dream year in and year out.
His four top-fives over the last seven Dream starts are tied with Chris Madden and Brandon Overton for most during that span and rank only behind Jonathan Davenport’s five since 2017. Furthermore, his $178,225 in earnings is good enough for eighth all-time.
Should he win Saturday, he’d crack the top-five in Dream earnings and become the sixth driver with multiple event wins.
7. Darrell Lanigan (Earnings: $231,325)
Outside of being mostly retired from driving, the 2003 Dream winner is an Eldora lifer, becoming one of the rare drivers to finish inside the top-five of the first Dream in 1994 and recently in 2021.
His $231,325 in Dream earnings are fifth all-time and his 21 starts are tied for second most with Dale McDowell. Even if Lanigan never races the Dream again (he’s been inactive at the event going on two years now), he’ll still be remembered as one of the event’s best.
8. Dale McDowell (Earnings: $226,650)
MacDaddy is a shoo-in for some kind of success at Eldora, his five podium finishes at the Dream ranking behind only Scott Bloomquist and Billy Moyer for most all-time.
Actually $195,550 of McDowell’s $226,650 total Dream earnings, which are sixth all-time, have come over the last 10 starts, an upswing that all started with his 2014 one and only triumph of the event.
9. Dennis Erb Jr. (Earnings: $156,754)
The 2016 Dream winner has a strong track record at the Crown Jewel event. His $156,754 in earnings are 10th-most all-time, plus he's finished on the podium three times, which not many drivers can associate with.
In fact, every driver on this very list has three more more podium finishes in the Dream except Brandon Sheppard. Erb deserves to be considered among the Dream’s very best.
10. Shane Clanton (Earnings ($167,075)
Many drivers have a strong case for the 10th and final spot, but the Georgia Bulldog’s longevity, 2012 Dream title and trio of podium finishes makes his case the strongest of drivers remaining.
Clanton’s $167,075 in Dream earnings ranks ninth all-time and unlike the rest of the one-time Dream winners, his three podium finishes at the lucrative event are in step with every driver on this list except Brandon Sheppard.
