Breaking Down The 2023 Knoxville Nationals Entry List
103 Sprint Car drivers and teams are currently entered for next week's 62nd Knoxville Nationals at Knoxville Raceway.
With the 62nd NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s at Knoxville (Iowa) Raceway officially a week away, here’s a look at the prospective entry list of 103 Sprint Car drivers and teams vying for The Granddaddy Of ‘Em All.
Four past champions headline the driver roster: 11-time and reigning Knoxville Nationals champion Donny Schatz, 2021 event winner Kyle Larson, ’19 winner David Gravel, and ’18 champion Brad Sweet. Gravel and Schatz race prelims on Wednesday, while Larson and Sweet qualify on Thursday.
Gravel and Sweet are in the midst of stellar of seasons once again, as Gravel leads the World of Outlaws standings with 10 series wins. Sweet, the four-time reigning WoO champion, follows Gravel in the series standings with six series wins. Larson, meanwhile, leads the High Limit Sprint Car Series standings with three wins in seven series races.
Though he’s mired in seventh in the WoO standings, Schatz already has a Crown Jewel win this year at Eldora Speedway’s Kings Royal.
Speaking of the Big E, Eldora Million winner Logan Schuchart has reloaded his Shark Racing team that’s gunning for their first Knoxville Nationals title. The Hanover, Pa., driver finished second in the big dance in 2019.
In addition to Schuchart, the following drivers are double-digit WoO winners yet to win a Knoxville Nationals: Brent Marks, Carson Macedo, Daryn Pittman, Kerry Madsen, Shane Stewart, Sheldon Haudenschild, and Terry McCarl.
The semi-retired racers of Pittman and Stewart are aboard one-off rides for the week, as Pittman wheel’s the Guy Forbrook-owned No. 5 with Shane Stewart piloting Bernie Stuebgen’s No. 71 Indy Race Parts machine.
With two-time All Star Circuit of Champions title winner Tyler Courtney on the mend with a back injury, Anthony Macri will again be the substitute driver aboard the Clauson Marshall Racing No. 7BC.
The following winners of the 360 Nationals will be on hand: Aaron Reutzel (2022), Gio Scelzi (’21), Kerry Madsen (’20), Terry McCarl (’19), Brian Brown (’14), and Stewart (’07 and ’10-’13).
