JD Reacts After Show-Me 100 Prelim Sweep

WHEATLAND, Mo. — Completing his domination of Lucas Oil Show-Me 100 prelims, Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., for the second straight night led every lap at Lucas Oil Speedway for a $6,000 payday.

The outside front-row starter took the checkers in the Don and Billie Gibson Tribute by 0.271 of a second over Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y. Fourth-place finisher Payton Looney of Republic, Mo., also closed within two-tenths of a second of the winner with 15 laps remaining in the 45-lapper, but Davenport fought off both drivers.

Davenport is the first driver to sweep Show-Me 100 prelims under the current format that started in 2013.

Mason Zeigler of Chalk Hill, Pa., started 12th and ran as high as third but slowed and retired after 28 laps while running fourth after a rear-end failure. Three other cautions slowed the 40-lapper (Daulton Wilson's lap-five spin; a Wilson-Tyler Stevens tangle on lap 14; and a Stevens spin on lap 29).

Surprising polesitter Jeff Herzog of Festus, Mo., hung in the top five early but faded out of contention, finishing 20th. The top 18 in preliminary points will be locked into Saturday's starting field for the $50,000-to-win weekend finale.

The Don and Billie Gibson Tribute celebrated the Show-Me 100 founders formerly of West Plains (Mo.) Motor Speedway. Boom Briggs, Ricky Weiss, Ross Robinson, Tyler Bruening and Tyler Erb were among drivers failing to qualify for Friday's feature.

Winning Quote From Jonathan Davenport

"We get to start on the front row (for Saturday's $50,000-to-win finale), though it's going to be a long race. We've led 85 laps so far. Just as long as we lead the last 85 tomorrow we'll be fine."
