Billy Moyer Sr. Advances In The FloRacing Combined Rankings As Others Fall
Billy Moyer Sr. rose four spots in the FloRacing Combined Power Rankings as other around him fell.
With three consecutive top fives in the World of Outlaws Late Model Series during late March and early April, Billy Moyer Sr. has kept a constant point average in the FloSports Combined Power Rankings. And while others around him have experienced some hardship or seen strong runs age out of the 60-day formula, he was able to advance four positions and land fifth on the chart.
Moyer has not run with either of the top series since April 8, when he finished 24th in the Bad Boy 98 at Batesville Speedway in Locust Grove, AR, but he had a decent weekend in an American Late Model Series (ALMS) race last week by finishing third in the preliminary night and eighth in the 74-lap main event.
Shannon Babb holds onto the top spot for another week, and like Moyer, he has not been in either the Lucas Oil or Outlaws field since the Bad Boy 98. He won the Farmer City 74 ALMS race, and while that did not count in his Power Ranking, it proves that he deserves to be listed as one of the top contenders in late models.
Brandon Sheppard bounded up the rankings from fourth to second with a fifth-place finish at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN, and a second at Duck River Speedway in Wheel, TN. Sheppard started both nights on the pole and led laps in each before he was passed by Brandon Overton in Maryville and Mike Marlar in Wheel.
World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series driver David Gravel held his third position this week. His weekend included a sixth-place finish in night one of the #LetsRaceTwo at Eldora Speedway and a modest 14th in night two. A 10th- and sixth-place finish in the March California swing aged out of his record and canceled out his Eldora results. Meanwhile, Gravel was able to get back up to speed at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN, with a second-place finish.
Donny Schatz picked up his ninth Outlaws win of the season in night two at Eldora and extended a top five streak to five consecutive races. Just when it appeared he was going to put his modest, mid-April Devil's Bowl Speedway showing behind him, he fell outside the top 10 in Haubstadt. He was able to advance one spot to fourth in the rankings, but with back-to-back wins one week previous, he was expected to move up event more.
American Sprint Car Series driver Johnny Herrera is the big loser this week. He finished 10th at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City and banked only 75 percentage points in a field of 36. That dropped him from second to eighth.
Aaron Reutzel won the Lakeside race and got a nice bump of seven positions from 40th to 33rd in the rankings, but several poor showings in the Outlaws hurt his overall numbers.
