Brickyard 400 Returning To Oval At Indianapolis Motor Speedway In 2024
After three years on the road course, NASCAR will bring the Brickyard 400 back to the 2.5-mile oval at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2024.
In 1994, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and NASCAR shocked the world by running a NASCAR race on the famed 2.5-mile oval in Speedway, Indiana for the first time with the inaugural running of the Brickyard 400. 30 years later, the Brickyard 400 will return to the NASCAR Cup Series schedule.
NASCAR and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway announced Thursday afternoon that the Brickyard 400 would be returning to the NASCAR Cup Series schedule on the famed 2.5-mile oval for the first time since 2020.
For the last three years, the Cup Series has raced on the infield road course instead of the oval at Indianapolis, as did the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

The return of the Brickyard 400 presented by PPG will take place on Sunday, July 21. The NASCAR Xfinity Series Pennzoil 250 is scheduled for Saturday, July 20.
The soon-to-be retired Kevin Harvick won the last Brickyard 400 held on the 2.5-mile oval in 2020. Michael McDowell will go down as the last winner on the IMS road course, at least for the foreseeable future, after winning there earlier this year to lock into the NASCAR Playoffs.

This announcement comes on the heels of NASCAR announcing that the 2024 All-Star Race weekend would return to North Wilkesboro Speedway Thursday morning.
The entire 2024 NASCAR schedule still has yet to be released, though it is expected within the next few weeks.
This weekend is the fifth running of the USAC Driven2SaveLives BC39 on the dirt track at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The three-day event is being streamed live on FloRacing to all FloRacing subscribers.
