Charlie Olson Knows You’ve Got To Race To Win
Charlie Olson will make his sixth start in the Joe & Nick Memorial this weekend and in five previous efforts, he has one win, two second-place finishes, a third, and a DNF.
Charlie Olson is a 37-year-old racer that has been racing at Sycamore Speedway since 1998 and he is excited to take on the challenge of another year in the Joe & Nick Memorial, streaming LIVE on FloRacing from Maple Park, IL Saturday night.
This is Olson’s sixth Joe & Nick, and he points out, “you got to race to win.” That is just what he did in 2011. Olson also finished second twice and third on another occasion.
In two decades of racing, he’s grown comfortable at the track, nabbed numerous wins and even a few championships.
“I was pretty much brought up there watching. Then I started racing there so I’ve been around it my whole life. Over the years, it’s gotten a lot safer and it’s real nice now.”
Charlie is racing in the dirt late model division, where he’s raced since moving up from Super Lates a few years back.
Many drivers have shared what it is about Sycamore that makes it special to run and just a little bit harder than others in the area. Olson weighed in with his take.
“Sycamore has a longer straightaway and tighter corners. It's a narrower track so there’s a lot more beating and banging going on, which makes it exciting for the crowd.” Olson said, “There’s a little more action than a ‘follower-the-leader’ type [track].”
